Keenan Bearskin

“Last year I lost my older brother, he passed away in a car accident. That really hit my family hard.” When Keenan Bearskin, a student at @DartmouthCollege, returned to school after the funeral, he put on a strong front, not telling his family or friends what he was going through. “I held it in so long that I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t fine, but I did my best to make it look like it was.” Eventually Keenan became sick, only getting back from opening up about the mental pain he was feeling. “Find an outlet, share with someone, be willing to let some of that weight off your back and share it with someone else. …you don’t have to go through it alone.”

Keenan Bearskin shared their story with It Gets Brighter, a campaign to support young people who are experiencing mental health issues by sharing video messages of hope and support. To see the full video and to share your experience of the covid-19 pandemic, visit itgetsbrighter.org
