Jenny
At 16 I was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder Bipolar type. I’d never even heard of it. To put it simply, it’s when a person experiences symptoms of a mood disorder (bipolar or major depressive disorder) and schizophrenia. I got lucky, I was already in treatment for anxiety and depression. Thanks to my family, friends, and mental health professionals it was caught early. Three years in and I still don’t have it fully figured out. It’s extra hard when no one seems to even understand what these disorders are and they’re just not being widely talked about, even in the mental health community. I’m in college now, I had to take a semester off and might have to in the future, but I’m here now. I’m trying to learn to live in the “now” because tomorrow isn’t always certain.
